Fueled by strong winds and dry conditions, devastating wildfires are threatening communities across Southern California. Fire conditions are expected to remain critical through the weekend, and by Saturday morning the fires had already consumed 170,000 acres. Almost 200,000 people face evacuation orders across four counties; Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles and San Diego. Officials report that the fires have already destroyed some 430 homes and are threatening as many as 25,000 additional homes. Local power, water, transportation and communication infrastructures are being threatened by the fires and impacting more than 14.7 million people. The Governor of California has declared a State of Emergency.
